Erica Bough boasts an active trumpet studio in the Chicagoland area and is currently Assistant Director for the Northern Illinois University Pride of the Midwest Huskie Marching Band. She earned a BS in Music Therapy from the University of Missouri – Kansas City, and a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from Southern Illinois University.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, her first trumpet teacher, Chris Jaudes, followed by Susan Slaughter and Thomas Drake from the St. Louis Symphony, planted the joy for the trumpet that has continued through today. After her college years studying with Keith Johnson at the University of North Texas and Keith Benjamin at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory, she has enjoyed the honor of teaching at many levels, including college, high school and middle school students. She opened her first private trumpet studio in 1998 through the St. Louis Symphony Community Music School while also performing with the St. Louis Philharmonic, St. Louis Wind Symphony, and St. Louis Brass Band. After moving to Chicago, she performed with the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, Fermi Orchestra, Chicago Brass Band and Fox Valley Brass Band. In addition, she is a co-founding member of the Athena Brass Band, occupying various chairs over the past 20+ years nationally and internationally.
Mrs. Bough currently resides in Elburn, IL, home base to Ericaboughstudios.com including both musical and fitness opportunities not only as a music educator, but also as a 5th Degree Black Belt certified Martial Arts and Tai Chi instructor. She also enjoys gardening, and anything outdoors with her husband and two children.
