Felipe Martins is a sousaphone and tuba player residing in Zaragoza. He is also the creator of a microphone holder for sousaphone and tuba.
Felipe Martins was born in Montevideo (Uruguay) but he has also lived in Abrigada (Portugal), Barcelona and several villages in Mallorca (Spain).
Living in a variety of cultures has contributed to the development of a huge curiosity for different music styles (classic, reggae, rock, candombe, jazz, funk, brass band, etc.) and other stage arts related with interpretation and clown. Hence, Felipe Martins is a versatile musician eager to continue learning and developing projects.
Currently, Artistas del Gremio and Jazz Hunters are Felipe Martins’ main musical activity, although he is constantly working on different artistic proposals.
With these groups, he takes part in studio recordings, video clips, and national and international concerts in halls, auditoriums, festivals, and streets of different towns and cities.
Over the years he has been able to collaborate with different ensembles and soloists such as Jorge Pardo, Toni Cuenca, Los Gandules, Obrint Pas, Celtas Cortos, Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia, Sinfónica Zaragoza, Jove Orquestra d’Eivissa, Joven Orquesta de Bandas Sonoras, Wind Orchestra Zaragoza, Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears (internal band in the opera “Nabucco”), Banda Patilla, Los Estupendo Burruños de la Morralla y su Banda de Impresentables, 1Ronda+ or Charanga El Cachondeo.
Felipe Martins has been able to do regular or sporadic classes, with a large number of musicians such as Toni Chelvi, Dani Navarro, Miquel Badia Sarri at the Municipal Conservatory of Music of Barcelona (CMMB), Luis Pablo Pérez at the Conservatori Professional de Palma, Àngel Torres, at the Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears (CSMIB), Alex Marco, Pedro Castaño, at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón (CSMA), Sergio Carolino, Sergio Finca, Steaven Mead, Miguel Moreno, Bernd van Echelpoel, Ramiro Tejero, Ismael Cantos, José Martínez, Bastien Baumet, Alessandro Fossi, Javi Callén and Pep Burguera, among others.
In March 2020, shortly before confinement due to COVID-19, he participated in the recording of Jazz Hunters’ first album entitled “Jazz Hunters.” Later, in early 2021, he recorded the fourth album of the band Artistas del Gremio called “Butibamba”, and that same year he participated in the album “Extravagancia” of Los Gandules in the song “Las Tubas de la Ira”.
Felipe Martins uses Denis Wick’s Heritage 1CC and Heritage 2.5CC mouthpieces, as well as Denis Wick’s DW5518 mute. He is also an Adams artist endorser and plays the Adams MSP1 sousaphone, made in the Netherlands, and the Thunder Force sousaphone, made with carbon fiber in Zaragoza by José Miguel Sánchez Abanto.
