Born in Taiwan, Tzu-Hsiang Lin, known as Hsiang or Lin, started his musical life on violin when he was 10. At the age of 12, he first picked up the euphonium deciding at a young age to take it up as a career. He studied under Prof. Fu-Hsuan Duan, Ray Kao, Yun-Hung Lin and Yu-Ting Kuo.
In 2013, Lin graduated from Shih-Chien University and did one year of national service in Ministry of National Defense Symphony Orchestra.
During 2014-2016 he studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire under Matthew White, David Childs and Richard Marshall, Hsiang learned the culture of British-style brass bands from lots of bands, especially in The Staffordshire Band as a Principal Euphonium with David Purkiss and Birmingham Conservatoire with Ian Porthouse. Lin was also awarded several prizes:
- First prize at the Open Quartet at the fifth Foden’s Solo, Duet and Quartet Contest with Euph4oniums
- First prize at the Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Department Solo Competition
- First prize at the All England Masters with Virtuosi GUS Band as guest principal euphonium.
In 2016, Hsiang finished his MMus degree with distinction from Birmingham Conservatoire, becoming the first Taiwanese musician to be awarded a Master’s Degree in Euphonium Performance in the UK.
As a euphonium promoter in Taiwan, Lin has lead the EuTuba euphonium and tuba ensemble for many years. This team is the founder of the Taiwan Tuba Euphonium Festival, created to develop a population of euphonium and tuba players and to improve the playing level in Taiwan. As a soloist, Lin has been invited by many bands to play as a soloist. As a team worker, Lin is the principal euphonium of Taipei Symphonic Band, he often plays as a guest player with symphony orchestras. He has worked with National Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan Philharmonic), Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Moments Musicaux performing works such as Mahler Symphony No.7, and The Planets. He is also teaches euphonium at the Taipei National University of the Arts, the National Taiwan University of Arts, Shih Chien University and the National Kaohsiung Normal University.
Lin is a Besson Euphonium Artist, and he plays a Prestige euphonium.
