Yu-Han Yang is the principal euphonium of Golden Hymn Brass Band, a Besson Euphonium Performing Artist and a Young Artist of The Musicians’ Company.
Born in Taiwan, Yu-Han started his musical journey as a euphonium player at the age of 9. In 2013, he began his undergraduate studies at Taipei National University of the Arts and became their first ever euphonium student. In 2018, he attained his bachelor’s degree and flew to the UK to undertake his postgraduate studies at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
He rose to prominence globally in 2019 when he won a first prize at the Charlton House Lyrical Brass competition in London, as well as winning the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Prize. In the same year, he was appointed Principal Euphonium of the Tredegar Town Band. Furthermore, he was awarded Silver Medal by The Musicians’ Company and became their Euphonium Young Artist.
In 2020, he won the prestigious Jeju International Brass Competition in South Korea, as well as Brass Open category at the Tokyo International Youth Music Competition. Also in 2020, he was awarded a Master’s degree with distinction from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and became a Besson Euphonium Performing Artist. His achievements led him receive Player of the Year 2020 from the online brass magazine 4barsrest.com.
In 2022, Yu-Han completed his journey with the Tredegar Town Band with an acclaimed solo performance at the Royal Albert Hall ‘Late Prom’ show. After returning to Taiwan, he was appointed Principal Euphonium of Golden Hymn Brass Band.
Besides playing in brass band, he also has strong passion in marching activities. He marched with The Cavaliers in 2014 and The Cadets in 2016 as the lead baritone in both drum and bugle corps. In 2018, he became bass trombonist in a brand new marching stage show called ‘One Piece Oto Utage’ in Tokyo, Japan.
