Helen Varley

Helen Varley is solo horn of the famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band. Helen previously worked for over a decade as an acoustic consultant for the UK’s largest architectural practice, designing educational buildings and concert halls, and before playing at Grimethorpe was a horn player at the Black Dyke Band.

In the past couple of years Helen has undertaken a complete career change, completing a master’s degree (distinction) in music performance at the Royal Northern College of Music.

She is now forging a very successful career in music teaching, and is currently the Tenor Horn tutor at Salford University, the Junior RNCM and Chetham’s School of Music. Helen is a general brass teacher for Bradford Music Hub. Helen has also featured as a guest soloist, tutor and workshop clinician in various locations, including a recent post as visiting tutor at Kneller Hall Royal Military School of Music.

Helen is a Denis Wick Artist.
