Born in 1996 in Troyes, France, Antoine Houzelle began studying the trombone at the music Conservatory of his hometown in specialized classes, then in a double school curriculum with Olivier Renault before exploring the sackbut. In 2017, he joined the Conservatoire de Paris in the trombone and sackbut classes of Jacques Mauger and Jean-Jacques Herbin, where he earned his musical studies diploma. In 2019, he contributed to the album Sixty Years of Trombone, released in October 2020 to celebrate his professor’s anniversary.
After completing the concert cycle at the Conservatoire de Paris with Jacques Mauger, Antoine Houzelle was invited to perform with various ensembles and orchestras (Gruppo strumentale La réjouissance, Temps contre temps, La compagnie des Humbles, Quaderna Via, and various city symphony orchestras) and is a sackbut player with the Consort Musica Vera. With this group he recorded the Missa in Labore Requies by Muffat at the Royal Chapel of Versailles in partnership with the Baroque Music Center of Versailles. In 2021, still with this group, he also recorded the Missa pro defunctis by Kerll, released as an album in January 2022, participated in the 32nd Festival of Monastier-sur-Gazeille (43), and served as a jury member for the National Trombone Trio Competition in Troyes under the presidency of Gilles Millière.
As a concert performer, Antoine Houzelle collaborated with the French organist Michael Matthes for various musical events such as the “Ville en Musique” Festival in Troyes (10), during the International Organ Days in Richelieu (37), and in Contz-les-Bains (57). He was invited to close the “Alpilles Musicales” festival in Maussane-les-Alpilles (13) with the Ukrainian pianist Olga Bondarénko. Since 2023, he has formed the Duo Antella with international pianist Gabriella Torma. They record and perform together in Paris and across France, as well as collaborate with hospitals of Paris to promote access to culture.
As a teaching artist, Antoine Houzelle holds a state diploma for trombone teaching from the Conservatoire supérieur de Rennes (35) and is a trombone teacher at the conservatory in the 14th district of Paris.
