Musical studies for Charlie started at the age of 11. A graduate of the High School of Music & Art Studied at William Paterson College, Long Island University. After a 32 year hiatus, he graduated Cum Laude from CCNY in 2020 He was awarded a grant from the National Endowment of The Arts (1986) to study with Steve Turre and Benny Powell (two well-known jazz trombonists).

Charlie has performed with Ricardo Arjona, Frankie Ruiz, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Tito Nieves, Tito Puente, Larry Harlow, DLG to name a few. He did performances with the jazz tuba player Bob Steward and his group “First Line.” Charlie Garcia appeared in the April issue of Down Beat magazine receiving a scholarship from Tito Puente for his excellence in music while attending the New School for Social Research. In 1999, Charlie was commissioned by Willie Colon to arrange 16 of his songs for a 21-piece big band in Mexico City. In 2001 he did the “Galeria Caribe” tour with Ricardo Arjona. From 2002 to 2008 he became the musical director for the Lebron Brothers touring Europe and South America. Charlie is a studio musician, studio engineer and Pro Tools session editor. He also performs, arranges and is musical director for Joe Bataan and the Latin Heartbeat Orchestra, continues to and is currently producing for various artists from his recording studio under his company DJV Music Inc. Aside from continuing his musical career and completing his bachelor’s degree in jazz performance at CCNY, he has further aspirations to further study for a master’s degree in music. These are some of the accomplishments of a life dedicated to music and excellence as a trombonist, producer, arranger, studio engineer, live sound engineer, teacher and a student.
