Wilmer carried out his musical studies at ‘’La Universidad del Valle” in Cali, Colombia and has worked with different artists who perform in the “Salsa” genre both in the USA and world-wide such as : Mikcy Taveras, Andy Montañez, Tito Nieves, Alex De Castro, and the “Merengue” genre with: Elvis Crespo, La Makina De Puerto Rico, Rikarena from Dominican Republic , Los Hermanos Rosario, Ramón Orlando y Rodhen Santos. He has performed Colombian Folklore and Fusion genre performances with: Juan Carlos Coronel, Adriána Lucia, Santiago Cruz, Andrés Cabas, Tobby Tobón, El Papa Pastor and the Christian Music singer, Alex Campos.

Wilmer has been part of many music festivals such as Viva La Salsa in Mexico City, Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival in Aruba during 2015 and 2016, Salsa Festival in Guayaquil Ecuador, Salsa Al Parque Festival from 2015 to 2018, Jazz Al Parque Festival 2018 and 2019 as a guest during those years whilst consecutively performing as Big Band Lead Trumpet from the thumpers section.

Currently Wilmer is Lead Trumpet in one of the most iconic and important Salsa orchestras in Colombia if not the world the GUAYACÁN ORCHESTRA with Alexis Lozano and Nino Caicedo, this orchestra travels around the world playing for instance in Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland, Turkey, Israel, Malta. Ecuador, Mexico, United States of America, United Arab Emirates (Dubai) and Colombia.

Wilmer currently lives in New York City where he performs with a variety of local and international artists such as: Pete Nater, José Mangual jr., Edie Montalvo, Willie Alvarez, Carlitos Padrón, Boby Allende, Pablo Santaella, Rubén Rodriguez, Arturo Ortíz, Luisito Quintero, Jaír Sala, Raúl Agraz, Maneco Ortiz, Anibal Martinez, Jose Tabares, Jhon Benítez, Nelson Gonzales, Santiago Moyano and with the New York Orchestra as a Music Director.
